First Year Anniversary Ideas – What to Get

A paper item is a great anniversary gift especially if you are into traditions. If you do not know what gift you can give to your loved one, here are some useful first year anniversary ideas:

• Magazine or newspaper subscriptions are great first year anniversary ideas. Though it is hard to know the starting date of the subscription, it is a nice idea to make a breakfast in bed and include the magazine or the newspaper on the tray together with a sweet note, saying about your special gift.

• If you are into writing and wanted to be more romantic, you can try typing a newsletter that records the first year of your marriage. You can include headlines for a great impression. It is a fun way to remember all the special events you have shared together.

• You can buy tickets for a concert or a Broadway play or something that both of you enjoy watching. Match this with a romantic dinner at your preferred restaurant where you can enjoy your first anniversary.

• Purchase your partner’s favorite book and to make it more special, buy the first edition copy or a signed copy.

• One of the most popular first year anniversary ideas is creating a scrapbook. You can give your partner an empty scrapbook as your anniversary gift and work on filling the scrapbook together. Another idea is to work on the scrapbook yourself. Start the scrapbook with photographs from your courtship, then the wedding preparations and the wedding itself. You can also put honeymoon pictures and the trips you had throughout your first year together.

• If both of you love traveling, you can surprise your partner with plane tickets to your dream destination for a romantic weekend getaway. Put the tickets on the refrigerator door or under his or her pillow or send your partner an e-mail regarding your itinerary.

• Books are great anniversary gifts especially for those who are into book collections. But if your partner is not into reading, you can give him or her a graphic book about his favorite hobby or sport.

• A framed caricature of your photograph together can be a great display in your home or office. You can ask a local artist in your area or create your own caricature if you are artistically inclined.

• You can buy your partner a personalized stationary. This idea is especially great for women, as they have changed their names after the marriage.

• A personalized romantic card can be appreciated. Create your own card using your favorite photograph together as the main design and add your personal thoughts and feelings about your partner and your married life.

• If budget restricts you from buying first anniversary gifts, you can still celebrate the special event and show your partner how much you love him or her. For instance, you can cook a special dinner for two. You can plan the romantic dinner ahead of time and print your own menu using a high-quality paper, include the menu with a special card and give it to your spouse.

Websites for brides and brides-to-be?

I love wedding planning, but I don’t have the time to actually start a wedding business, even if I was only to cater to smaller weddings.

If I was to invest time and money into creating a bridal website that would be available to the public (no subscription), what would you like to see in it? The Knot and other bridal websites give great advice and are sponsored by a variety of bridal services from all over the United States. I, however, cannot deliver and give advice on local businesses other than what’s in my area. And I’d like to be able to provide information for any bride that needs it.

So what kind of information would you like to find on a bridal site that you typically can’t find? More relationship/drama advice? More how-to ideas for the brides who need to do the wedding themselves? Advice on negotiating with vendors, how table arrangements should be, etc.?

What do YOU want to find that you can’t find elsewhere?

I think a local bridal site would be an awesome resource for those in your area. What a creative idea! I’d say that you should designate a particular geographic area, and concentrate on vendors in that area, or those who service that area.

I wouldn’t worry about relationship/drama advice. That would keep you tied to the computer. How to diy advice would be helpful. Maybe let people leave feedback on vendors if you wish. That would help others know about the service. You might wish to list all vendors, and those that wanted to pay a small fee could have a bold listing, such as the phone book does. Advice pages would be wonderful. I think it has a chance of working. Good luck!
